InnLink, LLC was presented the Tennessee Hotel &Lodging Association’s Gold Star Public Relations Award for Community Service at the Annual Conference on Thursday, September 21, 2006 for their work on the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. The company directly raised $10,000 in donations for the May 2006 Hendersonville event, which raised over $200,000 in total community donations for cancer research.
The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life is an all-night event that citizens of local communities use as a vehicle to raise funds for the organization. Since it’s inception five years ago, the InnLink staff has worked with the local Chapter to make the Hendersonville event become one of the most successful fundraising events of this type in the entire state of Tennessee. This year’s event raised over $200,000 for the American Cancer Society. InnLink placed third for amount of funds raised by a company. The InnLink booth placed first for creativity.
Members of the InnLink staff worked for several months to help raise $10,000 for the cause. This was a great accomplishment for the InnLink staff. Senior management donated long hours to organize the entire event. InnLink President, Mike Young, served as a past event chair and advisor. Vice President of Operations, Laurie Bechler, served as the 2006 Team Development Chair. The entire InnLink staff helped with the following aspects of the event:
• Staff members designed and built a booth based on a “Hollywood” theme. Cutouts of Marilyn Monroe and James Dean were constructed and painted as part of the booth display where attendees would pay to have their photos taken when placing their face in the cut-out.
• Another section of the booth was designed as a miniature Grauman's Chinese Theatre, where InnLink employees cooked, served and sold food all night long to attendees.
• A team of 24 InnLink staff members walked in the all-night marathon which is the most important part of the event.
• Prior to the event, InnLink employees raised money by holding bake sales, yard sales, silent auctions and having “jean” days at the office.
InnLink continues to support the American Cancer Society and their goal of eliminating cancer.
